Research Interests

Dr. Vonder Haar’s research interests revolve around behavioral dysfunction in disease states. He is particularly interested in the consequences of traumatic brain injury (TBI), for which there are currently limited treatment options. Using rodent models of TBI, Dr. Vonder Haar investigates functional outcome measures using operant behavioral paradigms, mazes, and sensorimotor tasks to try to identify pathological features such as tissue loss, neuroinflammation and glial activity that contribute to chronic impairments. The overarching goal of his lab is to find viable treatment options, both behavioral and pharmacological, for the long-term dysfunction that occurs as a result of TBI.
