Life-Span Developmental Psychology
Prelims
Developmental students are required to take the doctoral candidacy examination (“prelim”) in the summer between their second and third year in the program. The developmental preliminary examination is comprised of two components—a methodology examination and a life-span examination. For the methodology examination, the student selects either a written-memory examination or a take-home examination and answers questions written by the examining committee. For the life-span examination, the student writes either a critical review or a theoretical article on a topic selected by the student and approved by the examination committee. See the Life-Span Developmental Area’s Supplement to the Department’s Graduate Handbook for more information.
